What is a Dream Board? A Dream Board is a simple and powerful visualization tool that assists you in creating the results you want as an athlete. It is a project that provides an opportunity for you to dream about your future. It is a visual representation or collage of the things that you want to have, be or do in life and athletics. The more you concentrate on what you want, the more you continue to attract it into your life.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR DREAM BOARD
Your personal Dream Board is YOURS and YOURS ONLY. There are no limitations, so use your creativity to the fullest extent. Most Dream boards are done on poster board or foam board but can be done on a canvas or any creative surface as long as it is displayable.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Poster Board or foam board
A large assortment of magazines, computer printouts, photos, etc. (Be sure that these are in color)
Glue or tape
Scissors
Markers, construction paper, glitter, paint (anything you may want to use to personalize the board)
DREAMS
STEP 1- WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Make a list of the things that you want, the athlete you want to be, or the things you want to do in your athletic career. Write the list starting each sentence with “I want….”. When doing this ask your self some questions:
Do I want to pitch/catch/play outfield/infield in high school? College? Professionally? In other countries?
What kind of hitter do I want to be? (power, slapper, rbi, pinch, etc)
What kind of pitcher do I want to be? (average, above average, smart, consistent, starter, relief, etc)
What college do I want to play at? What level ? etc
What awards do I want to achieve?
What records do I want to set?
What things outside of softball do I want?
Where do I want to visit?
What else is important to me?
What about my family?
STEP 2- GATHER PICTURES
Using the magazines, pictures from the internet, and personal photos search for any pictures, words, phrases, etc that can be a representation for the things you want. Make sure to choose those pictures, words, phrases, etc that make you feel excited about your dreams. Those that excite you will continue to charge you in the direction of reaching your dreams.
STEP 3- SORT AND CUT
Once you have a pile of pictures and cut outs, go through them again and decide which ones excite you the most. Cut the extra material away from the pictures. Remember to be creative, you could cut the pictures in to shapes or cut creative edges around the pictures.
STEP 4- ARRANGE AND APPLY
Start creatively arranging your pictures on your board. Don’t worry about being artistic-that is not the point. Arrange the pictures in a way that brings a smile to your face. After you are satisfied with your arrangement glue or tape the pictures in place. You may add any writing or drawing to the board to better personalize it for YOU.
STEP 5- PLACEMENT
The most important part of having a Dream Board is having it in a place where you can see it DAILY. You want to place it in a spot where you cannot help but think about what you want. Some great places might be next to a mirror you use in your room to get ready for the day, on the wall across from your bed, on the roof over your bed, or anywhere you want. It is important to keep it in a place where you will not feel any negativity about it. So if you worry what others will think about it then display it somewhere only you will see it.
GENERAL RULES:
Create with color and visual stimulus
Use only that which excites you
Place it where you can see it
Make it YOURS and YOURS ONLY
HAVE FUN!!!!!!
Remember: DREAM BIG!
