Hey Robert, I do think it is mostly a shift in coaching that has to change. This week I attended a seminar in Calgary. The seminar was not about softball but about moving yourself forward. We as coaches have a responsibility to continue to improve both on and off the field as people. So to answer your question we need to motivate our coaches to attend these seminars. Any ideas?

JoAnn,
What would you need as far as assistance from the leagues to bring this type of program to Palm Beach County?

This is a fantastic idea. Learning is a process that never stops. The way to develop talent is to encourage young athletes to embrace the game. Coaches have a responsibility to keep their players engaged and to transition them towards the next level of play. What better way than to learn specific coaching techniques and best practices from those who have had success at the highest level in the sport.

I am really glad Joann wrote this Blog, this is a lesson that I learned from her in dealing with my owm daughter who happens to be an emotional pitcher to begin with. When I finally realized ( thanks to her pitching coach) that she needed me to be her biggest fan and to always be positive for her, we really started to gel as a team Athlete/Coach/Catcher and the success has come along with it. Don't get me wrong, I still get plenty upset when things aren't going our way but the differance is, my daughter/pitcher never sees it. Thanks Joann!

At what age is it appropriate to get Dad off the bucket and let the catchers call the game? Any thoughts on making the transition?
